The Story Behind
“The Carolina Kind”
When I originally recorded “The Carolina Kind,” I was signed to a major record label in Nashville. The intent was to release this song along with a full album of other songs. It was important to me to have a song on the record that shared a bit about where I come from. I am a Carolina girl through and through. It’s hard not to be proud of that with song lyrics that romanticize the Carolinas. Lyrics like:
“Carolina girls… Best in the world!” (General Johnson & the Chairmen of the Board)
Or “In my mind I’m gone to Carolina” (James Taylor)
I wanted a Carolina song; a song that made people proud of where they come from, and a story that rings true so that even if you aren’t from the Carolinas, you might still relate to “The Carolina Kind.”
You can hear more about how we crafted the song, plus a live acoustic performance, in the video…
When I recorded “The Carolina Kind” for Warner Bros., I wanted it to be the title track. Here is a mockup of what I hoped the album cover might look like.
